Freeman Pawn Shop is a pawnshop at Plot 882 in the Nkoyaphiri area of Mogoditshane, Kweneng District, Botswana. A pawnshop makes short-term loans against personal property that the borrower pledges as security. In Botswana the trade falls under the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA), which states that every entity operating in the non-bank financial sector must be licensed or exempted by it, and which licenses pawnshops under its conditions for lending business other than micro-lending. In 2013 the government's Daily News reported that NBFIRA had drafted rules for pawnbrokers aimed at protecting consumers and preventing trade in stolen goods. Mogoditshane is a large village on the western edge of Gaborone and forms part of the capital's built-up area. It grew rapidly in the 2000s, from 14,246 residents at the 2001 census to 57,637 in 2011. The shop has not published the goods it accepts, its loan terms or its charges online, so phoning ahead before travelling is advisable.
