About

Engen Filling Station (Phaphane) is a fuel station trading under the Engen brand in Mochudi, Kgatleng District, Botswana. Engen is a petroleum company headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa. Its origins lie in the Natal Oil Company, founded in Durban in 1881; the business operated under the Mobil brand until it began trading as Engen in 1990. The Malaysian state oil company Petronas held the majority stake for about 25 years until May 2024, when Vivo Energy took control. Engen operates in several southern African and Indian Ocean countries, and its Botswana business is listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange. Mochudi, the capital of Kgatleng District, lies about 37 km north-east of Gaborone and had 50,321 residents at the 2022 census. It was settled in 1871 by the Bakgatla, who moved there from what is now South Africa and built at the foot of Phuthadikobo Hill beside the Notwane River. The Phuthadikobo Museum, housed in the village's original school building, keeps photographs and records of the Bakgatla. Opening hours, the products sold and contact details for this station have not been published online.
