Choppies Pilane

Choppies Pilane is a branch of the Choppies supermarket chain at Pilane, a village in Kgatleng District, Botswana. Across its supermarkets, Choppies lists its departments as fresh produce, bakery, groceries, butchery, takeaways and financial services. It also runs an online supermarket, eChoppies, which it offers at selected locations only. Choppies Enterprises was founded in Lobatse in 1986 and is headquartered in Gaborone. It has been listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange since 2012 and has had a secondary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since 2015. The group describes itself as the largest grocery retailer in southern Africa outside South Africa and reports 161 stores and nine distribution centres. Pilane lies about 10 km south-west of Mochudi, the capital of Kgatleng District, and had 1,178 residents at the 2001 census. Kgatleng is coterminous with the homeland of the Bakgatla people, borders South Africa to the south and east, and had 121,882 residents at the 2022 census, up from 91,660 in 2011. Choppies has not published which of its services, including eChoppies, are offered at the Pilane branch, nor a telephone number or trading hours for it.
