It lies between Kgale Hill and Oodi Hill, near the confluence of the Notwane and Segoditshane rivers in the south-eastern corner of the country, within 15 kilometres of the South African border. The modern town was founded in 1964, when a capital was needed for the territory that became self-governing in 1965 and fully independent on 30 September 1966. The 2022 census counted 246,325 residents, about a tenth of Botswana's population. The shop has not published its product range, prices or whether any of its meat is halaal-certified, so phoning ahead before travelling is advisable.
