A1 Hardware Serowe

A1 Hardware Serowe is a hardware store on Main Road in Kgope Ward, Serowe, in Botswana's Central District. Serowe was founded in 1902 by Khama III, chief of the Bamangwato, as the new capital of the Bamangwato people. Its name comes from Serowa, a local bulb plant; the British spelling Serowe was later retained by the community. The village is the birthplace of Sir Seretse Khama, Botswana's first president, and of Festus Mogae, its third, and the Khama III Memorial Museum there includes a room dedicated to the writer Bessie Head, who made her home in Serowe. Serowe had 47,447 residents at the 2011 census, making it one of the largest villages in Botswana. It lies west of the main Gaborone–Francistown road, from which it is easily reached, and marks the start of the road west to the diamond mines around Orapa.
