Kasungu ESCOM Office

Kasungu ESCOM Office is an electricity utility office in Kasungu, Kasungu District, Malawi, run by the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM). Its postal address is P.O. Box 403, Kasungu. ESCOM is a state-owned company, founded in 1984, with its headquarters at ESCOM House on Haile Selassie Avenue in Blantyre. It controls the transmission and distribution of electricity throughout Malawi and acts as the bulk purchaser of power. Since January 2017 the government's power stations have been run by a separate company, the Electricity Generation Company Malawi (Egenco), leaving ESCOM responsible for the grid and for supplying customers. ESCOM's website, escom.mw, gives toll-free call-centre numbers for the Southern Region and for the Central and Northern Regions, together with a WhatsApp service, a mobile app for reporting faults and managing accounts, and a list of its offices across Malawi. Kasungu lies in Malawi's Central Region, about 130 km north-west of Lilongwe, and had 58,653 residents at the 2018 census. Tobacco growing is the main industry of the area. A farm near the town was the birthplace of Hastings Banda, Malawi's first president, and Kasungu National Park, opened in 1970, has brought tourism to the district. The Kasungu office has not published its own telephone number or opening hours online, so faults and account queries are best raised through ESCOM's national call centre.
