Water Utilities Corporation Mochudi

Water Utilities Corporation Mochudi is an office of the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), Botswana's state-owned water utility, in Mochudi, Kgatleng District, Botswana. WUC supplies drinking water and handles wastewater services in Mochudi, as it does across the country. In January 2020 the government's Daily News reported the Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Daniel Molokwe, as saying that the North-South Carrier was the sole water source for the greater Mochudi area, which covers nine of the 22 villages in the district's management area. In September 2023 the Daily News reported that WUC was building a P3 million dedicated supply system for Mochudi's Tsope, Bolelatshwene, Mosupabatho and Diphonchi wards, after residents complained of taps running dry and low water pressure. Construction had begun in March and was expected to finish in December. WUC was established in 1970 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 74:02) and is owned by the Government of Botswana. It began with a single project, the supply and distribution of water in what was then the Shashe Development Area. Between 2009 and 2013 the water sector was restructured and the corporation was given a mandate to supply drinking water to all urban centres and villages and to manage wastewater and sanitation services. Its South region, based in Gaborone, has management centres serving Gaborone, Mochudi, Lobatse, Molepolole, Kanye, Gantsi and Tshabong. The head office is Sedibeng House on Luthuli Road, Gaborone. Mochudi is a large village about 37 km north-east of Gaborone, beside the Notwane River. It is the home of the Bakgatla, who settled there in 1871; the Phuthadikobo Museum, on a hill in the building that was the village's first school, records their history. The 2022 census counted 50,321 residents. WUC has not published opening hours for its Mochudi office online, so phoning ahead before travelling is advisable.
