About

Matombi Bush Camp is a bush camp in the Bobonong area of eastern Botswana, in the Bobirwa sub-district of Central District. The camp lies about 90 km east of Bobonong village, in the northern Tuli area near the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, where Botswana borders Zimbabwe and South Africa. In Botswana the term "bush camp" covers anything from basic pitches for self-sufficient travellers to serviced tented camps, so the name alone does not show what a particular camp provides. Bobonong is the administrative headquarters of the Bobirwa sub-district and the home of the Babirwa. It had 21,216 residents at the 2022 census and lies about 80 km from Selebi-Phikwe. The area is known for the harvesting of mopane worms, and the Lepokole Hills, 15 km north of the village, contain San rock paintings and Stone Age sites. Accommodation, facilities, rates and a contact number have not been published online, so arrangements should be confirmed before making the long journey to this part of the country.
