Description
Welcome to NOCMA Lilongwe Depot, your trusted partner in the oil and natural gas industry, conveniently located in the heart of Lilongwe, Malawi's capital. As an integral part of the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) Limited, we take pride in being wholly owned by the Government of Malawi, aligning seamlessly with the National Energy Policy since our inception on December 14, 2010, under the Companies Act of 1984.
Our Lilongwe Depot boasts a substantial storage capacity of 25 million litres, strategically divided into 18 million litres for diesel and 7 million litres for petrol. This state-of-the-art facility ensures a robust supply chain, reinforcing our commitment to national energy security. President Peter Mutharika officially commissioned our Lilongwe Strategic Fuel Reserve on December 6, 2017, solidifying our dedication to ensuring stability and security in fuel supplies.
At NOCMA, our governance structure is robust, led by a Board of Directors chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government. This high-level oversight, complemented by an Executive Management team, guarantees the effective translation of strategic leadership into day-to-day operational excellence.
Our journey began in the early 1990s when the private sector managed liquid fuel importation, leading to governance concerns and a subsequent shift to government control through the Petroleum Control Commission. The establishment of NOCMA in 2003, with support from the World Bank and UNDP, marked a pivotal moment in Malawi's energy landscape, addressing challenges and promoting competition in the oil and gas industry.
The Lilongwe Depot, situated in Kanengo, plays a crucial role in managing the country's Strategic Fuel Reserve Facilities. With a storage capacity of 25 million litres, we contribute significantly to the national daily consumption level, ensuring more than 45 days of fuel cover for the country.
Our commitment to the region extends beyond Lilongwe, with Strategic Fuel Reserves also present in Blantyre and Mzuzu. Blantyre Depot, located in Matindi, and Mzuzu Depot, situated in Sonda, add another 25 million litres each to our overall storage capacity, fortifying our nationwide presence.
As the premier oil and natural gas company in Lilongwe, NOCMA Lilongwe Depot stands at the forefront of promoting oil and gas exploration activities, competition, and the strategic management of fuel reserves. Trust us for reliability, security, and a steadfast commitment to fueling the nation's progress.
