Zomba Institute of Management and Accountancy (ZIMA)

Zomba Institute of Management and Accountancy (ZIMA) is a college in the city of Zomba, in Malawi's Southern Region. As its name indicates, its field is management and accountancy education. Higher education institutions in Malawi are regulated by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), set up under the National Council for Higher Education Act of 2011. The council registers institutions and, separately, accredits the programmes they offer, so an institution may be registered to operate while a particular programme is not accredited. NCHE publishes lists of registered institutions and of accredited institutions and programmes. Zomba lies at the foot of the Zomba Plateau in the Shire Highlands. It was the capital of British Central Africa and then of the Nyasaland Protectorate, and remained Malawi's capital after independence in 1964 until the mid-1970s, when the seat of government moved to Lilongwe; Parliament stayed in Zomba until 1994. Chancellor College, long the largest college of the University of Malawi, is in the city, which had 105,013 residents at the 2018 census. The M3 road links Zomba with Blantyre to the south.
